360 waves are a hairstyle for short hair that has been very popular with African American men for many generations. When very short hairstyles are brushed & “trained” often, a natural looking pattern of waves form from the crown to the perimeter of the head in a 360 degree circular pattern, although each man’s wave pattern will differ from the others. It is best to start your 360 wave pattern off with a fresh haircut.
There have been many different techniques to achieve 360 hair waves. This is a proven technique that will work extremely well. You will need a few things to get your 360 waves.
A hair cut – 360 waves develop better with very short hair, so have your hair trimmed to between the lengths of 1/4″ – 1/2″
At the very least, 2 Do-Rags (only one will wear out too fast)
Firm bristled, hoarse hair brush – Try a Diane wave brush
Shea Butter or Pink Oil Moisturizer, a good moisturizer is a must. You will NOT develop waves with dried out hair.
A premium 360 waves pomade – Murray’s, Dax & Duke wave pomades are all excellent products with proven success.
A towel for your hair
Hot water
Great persistence (developing 360 waves takes weeks for most guys)
Now it’s important to be aware of your hair texture type. If you have soft & curly hair – If this is your hair texture you may begin the 360 waves process with step 1.
If you have medium textured hair (normal), meaning that your hair lies down naturally with little to no effort, this is considered medium. You can start the process with step 1.
But if you have very coarse hair (heavy, tightly curled, thick) there is no need to worry. Many men with coarse hair say they cannot achieve waves no matter how much oil or pomade they use or how much brushing they do. But it can be done, the trick is to texturize the hair first, to soften it. We suggest using a texturizing kit, such as S-Curl, or Duke. Follow kit set-up instructions carefully. Leave texturizer in hair for no more than 5 minutes. Use the neutralizing shampoo and allow hair to dry. Blot excess water from hair with a towel. Now you can start the 360 hair waves process with step 2.
HOW TO GET 360 WAVES. . . THE STEPS TO SUCCESS
STEP 1 -Start with clean hair. A good conditioning shampoo would be best. Follow the shampooing instructions and dry your hair with a towel.
STEP 2 -Apply your moisturizer of choice to your entire head. Apply a generous amount (size of a silver dollar) and massage into scalp.
STEP 3 -Begin brushing your hair starting at the top. Brush downward from the top evenly all the way around for at at least 10 mins, preferably 20 mins or more.
STEP 4 -Soak your towel in hot or very warm water & then wring it out really good.
Lay the towel on your hair for about 2 minutes or more. Apply some pressure to the towel so that your hair can absorb the moisture & softens. After the 2 minutes, take the towel off.
STEP 5 -Apply a generous amount (size of a silver dollar) of quality wave pomade throughout your hair. It may look white as if you’ve applied too much, but don’t worry. It is not too much.
STEP 6 -Repeat the brushing cycle, brushing your hair starting at the crown(top) area. Brush downward from the top EVENLY all the way around for at at least 5-10 mins.
STEP 7 -Tie your hair down with a Doo-Rag. This is very necessary in order to “train” your hair to lay in a thick 360 wave pattern and prevent you from messing up your waves while you sleep. If you don’t wear a head covering every night, you are hurting your progress.
STEP 8 -Repeat steps 2-8 once a day for 28 Days, shampoo/condition every 7 days. You are guaranteed to have 360 waves!
Don’t get a haircut for 3 weeks after you start this routine. A lineup is OK, but not a haircut in this first phase. After the first 28 day phase, you should get a haircut every 2 weeks or so. View each hair cut as the next installment of deeper set of 360 waves and never stop training your hair at night with wave cap.
Once your hair grows back to full length from the first, 2nd & 3rd cut, you’ll notice thick wave patterns EVEN MORE than the first 3 weeks of development, you’ll see a strong wave pattern on even short hair! Just keep in mind that brushing your hair evenly and regularly is a must. Tons of fellas have said that they can only get waves on the top or on the sides, this is because they didn’t brush evenly on a regular basis. Areas that are not brushed thoroughly do not wave up. So please, follow these instructions and your hair will have more wave than an ocean!
