Concrete Polishing Advice

January 15th, 2009. Published under Home Improvement. No Comments.

The thought of having someone be proficient with polishing concrete floors without prior experience is preposterous. There have been a fair number of tricks to learn, which unfortunately won’t happen overnight. People still ask me how it’s done, though, in the interest of learning it themselves. To them, I say this; if you want polished concrete floors, find someone who knows how to do it.

Now if you want to be a practitioner of the craft, then I suggest that you understand the process, have the right tools of the trade, and of course, and of course, practice what you know. All three of these are interconnected, and will help you provide the best service you can to potential customers.

So how does concrete polishing work? Basically, it’s a sequence of diamond tooling using progressively higher grits. You start with a low grit for your coarse grinding, removing the first few fractions of an inch from the surface. Doing this exposes the aggregate in the concrete, which could add to the beauty of the floor. You then proceed to batches of higher grits to attain that polished look.

Of course, then you’ll need the correct equipment for the job. There are many manufacturers of concrete polishing equipment, so you have to know which to choose, as well as which grits to get. I cannot explain them all here, as there a lot, but the folks at Concrete Polishing will be able to help.

You will also have to practice your craft extensively. Some suggestions that you would hear will either be enrolling in a crash course, or working under an existing enthusiast of concrete polishing for some time. As before, the folks at Concrete Polishing will help out either way.
