Unparalleled Swedish Luxury Cars
Saab is a Swedish auto manufacturer that produces the famous Saab 9-3 convertible. The 9-3, often referred to simply as the “ninety-three,” was produced between 1955 to 1960. In 1998, it was re-introduced as a hatchback and a two door convertible. It offered side impact airbags and was the last small Saab that would use an H engine, which meant it could use diesel fuel. During the first generation of the Saab 9-3s, there were 326,370 sold.
The Second Generation in 2002 eliminated the hatchback, and featured a 2.0 litre straight 4 engine. These turbocharged I4 engines were available in 3 different versions starting with 150 hp, a 175 hp, and a 2.0T (which had a 5-speed transmission, either manual or automatic). During 2004, Vector Aeromotive requested that the cars form be changed and in the United States, it became the Saab Aero, and had a 5-speed transmission. It still had a front wheel drive, as all the Saab 9-3 have always had, but it now came with several new safety features that had been added, such as Head Restraints to reduce whiplash, and passive rear wheel steering.
During 2005, these models were sold with 16-inch standard wheels, while later they were fitted with new dashboards and climate control systems. They also featured OnStar navigation systems, making them one of the more attractive luxury cars on the market. Likewise, the radio system was upgraded to satellite radio while CD players and MP3 players came standard. Though Turbo models were allowed into the United States, the five-seed transmission was upgraded to a six-speed transmission.
The Turbo X, released in 2007, was a limited edition phenomenon. It was only available in one color, metallic jet black. It was the first production car equipped with an extra wide all-wheel drive system developed by Haldex Traction. The engine was capable of producing 280 hp, subsequently, the braking system had to be reinforced with larger shocks and springs. Meanwhile, the interior was fitted with a carbon fiber aesthetic, giving it a harder, more urban look.
The 9-3 has been one of the more lauded models to hit the market. It has been regularly chosen as the Top Car of the Year. In 2002 it was awarded a 5 star rating in Europe. Meanwhile, it has consistently been pegged as one of the safest automobiles on the planet. When you are ready to look into powerful luxury cars, the 9-3 must on your list.
